While Black Friday often receives the most talk among the week-long commercial holidays that directly follow Thanksgiving, it’s Travel Tuesday when travelers might be able to snag the last of the year’s best deals for their future trips.
Travel Tuesday, or November 28 this year, is the last day for the majority of Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Cyber Week promotions launched by hotel corporations, cruise lines, airlines, tour operators and other travel companies.
For example, dozens of popular resorts in St. Lucia are offering up to 76 percent savings through Travel Tuesday. Marriott Bonvoy members can enjoy 20 percent off stays at over 6,500 properties worldwide when they book by Travel Tuesday. Tour operator, Collette, is offering up to 20 percent savings on tours for 2024 and 2025 through Travel Tuesday.
The time directly after Thanksgiving, which is synonymous with winter weather woes and record numbers of travelers heading back home following the holiday, is also becoming a week recognized for travel discounts.
"What's nice about this timeframe is it really opens up inventory, now is a really compelling time to take advantage of a number of deep discounts and credits that the cruise lines will offer,” said Brett Keller, Priceline’s CEO, to CBS News. “There's a lot more hotel inventory looking into, into the winter and spring of next year.”
The TSA predicted a record number of travelers in airports between November 17 and November 28 this year: with 30 million air travelers alone.
“We expect this holiday season to be our busiest ever,” TSA Administrator David Pekoske said in a previous statement earlier in November. “In 2023, we have already seen seven of the top 10 busiest travel days in TSA’s history.”
Those who won’t actively be traveling through November 28 (and for many more cruise lines and travel companies, through the end of the month), can score some great deals if they’re flexible with their travel dates in 2024 and even into 2025.
