The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation announced the islands have reached a historic annual visitor total of eight million travelers in 2023.

The Bahamas has grown its visitor numbers through digital marketing, social media and strategic partnerships, along with new infrastructure developments like a three-phase port development, the first phase of which opened in June, allowing more cruise passengers.

"The Bahamas has long been a sought-after destination, and reaching eight million visitors is a milestone that reflects the collective dedication of our tourism professionals nationwide,” said the Hon. I. Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism. “Our success lies not just in our islands' allure but in the strategic endeavors we have embraced. As we celebrate this achievement, we are equally focused on shaping a future that ensures sustained year-over-year growth and enhances the visitor experience."

The Bahamas has accepted development funds from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and many of its smaller islands (it has over 700 islands and cays) have become popular brand-exclusive cruise ports. Disney Cruise Line has two: Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point and Disney Castaway Cay, while Carnival announced in October that its own Bahamian paradise, Celebration Key, is set to open in 2025

There’s also been an increase in air connectivity from important source markets to The Bahamas. JetBlue was the latest to announce a first-ever nonstop connection between Nassau and Los Angeles (LAX), which was announced early in November.

The Caribbean has been the most successful region of the world in tourism following the COVID-19 outbreak. Its lure, of sunny weather and beautiful natural wonders, along with wellness and adventure offerings, has spurred its recovery faster than any other region in the world, prompting many Caribbean nations to report record-breaking visitor numbers and increased tourism growth.
