Skiers and snowboarders have a new place to warm up and grab a bite at Copper Mountain this winter. The Colorado resort is celebrating the opening of The Aerie, a new 25,000-square-foot lodge situated at 11,200 feet above sea level.
The ski area's leaders gathered for a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony on Saturday.
The two-story, mid-mountain facility features a fine dining restaurant called Forage and Feast, a five-station food hall, a coffee shop named Camp Hale Coffee and a private event space. While staying warm and toasty inside, skiers and snowboarders can take in 270-degree views of the surrounding Gore and Ten Mile mountain ranges.
Throughout the season, The Aerie will host special events and programming, including holiday dinners and moonlight “dine and ski” events.
The Aerie is located at the top of the American Eagle lift, which has open-air chairs and enclosed gondola cabins. The gondola unloads on the second-floor deck of the Aerie, which means non-skiing visitors can also access the new space.
Forage and Feast is the first full-service, on-mountain restaurant at the ski resort. Menus will emphasize Colorado cuisine, with dishes ranging from elk-jalapeno sausage to beef brisket chili rojo.
Copper, which is located roughly 75 miles west of Denver, opened for the winter season on Nov. 13.
