Los Cabos Travel Guide

At the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California Peninsula, you'll find the city of Los Cabos. But despite its distance from the mainland, you’ll discover true Mexican hospitality and zest for life, here. In this Los Cabos Mexico travel guide, you’ll learn all you need to know about this vibrant city.

Because of its remote location, first-time visitors are often apprehensive about transportation. But you won’t have to rent a car here in Los Cabos to get around. Public transportation is reliable, affordable, and convenient.

Locals and tourists alike depend on the bus service to get around. We never had a problem finding a bus along the Tourist Corridor, which is a 2-mile stretch between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. But what we did notice is that many of the bus drivers speak Spanish only.

Of course, there are many local taxis, but they aren’t cheap. You’ll recognize their shuttle service by their big blue vans.

Several top hotels also offer their taxi shuttle service to and from the airport.

Top Things To Do

Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico.
A Mexican vacation is more than just tacos, tequila, and parties on the beach. We found adventures of all kinds, from sporty adrenaline rushes to more cultural pursuits.

Important Things To Know

Currency

The official currency in Los Cabos, as in the rest of Mexico, is the Mexican Peso. However, thanks to its development as a tourist-friendly town, the US Dollar is also widely accepted here.

Most establishments accept all the major credit cards, although we did find that American Express was not as widely accepted as the others.

National Languages

The national language throughout Mexico is Spanish. It is also the main language spoken in Los Cabos. However, English is the official language, so tourists don’t have to worry about struggling with communication.

Climate And Weather

This sunny paradise has a tropical desert climate. From December to March, it enjoys a surprisingly warm winter. From May to October, the hot summer days are interrupted by a rainy season from July through September. The latter is the wettest month in the region.

When planning your Los Cabos trip, keep in mind that December to April, although pleasant weather-wise, is also the high tourist season. As such, prices tend to skyrocket accordingly.

If you dislike crowded streets, rather visit Los Cabos in the summer. But remember to skip the summer rainy season, unless you enjoy touring with an umbrella. We recommend sticking to May, June, and October.

The Flora Farms. We loved spending a day here during our travels and the breathtaking views of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains in the distance made it even more memorable. You’ll feast on farm-fresh food seated on outdoor chairs in the whimsically decorated gardens of this working farm. There’s also a charming bar, fresh produce grocers, and even a farm spa on this 25-acre paradise.

The landmark of Arco de Cabo San Lucas. Known as ‘Land’s End” due to its location, this imposing rock formation rising from the waters is a must for your vacation snaps. Glass-bottom boat tours are popular here as is snorkeling.
