Currency

Quebec uses the Canadian dollar and is recognized by the $, C$, CAD, and Can$ symbols.

The currency is divided into 100 cents and is available in the following denominations:

Banknotes: $5, $10, $20, $50, $100.

Coins: 5c, 10c, 25c, $1, $2.

National Languages

The official languages of Canada are English and French - and nowhere is that more clear than in Quebec. More than half the locals speak only French, and the rest speak both English and French.

Fortunately, because there are so many English-speaking people and French Canadians with a good grasp of English, traveling in Quebec is easy even without knowing French.

Time Zone

Quebec observes daylight savings time for 34 weeks of the year. It starts on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November.

Climate And Weather

Quebec is known for its brutal winters. Winter is from December to March, with freezing days and frigid nights.

Summer offers pleasant and partly cloudy weather. The summer high rarely goes above 80°F (26°C).

The wet season, which runs through summer and fall (from May to November), has a 30% chance of rainfall almost every day.

When To Visit Quebec

While it seems obvious to avoid the cold, Quebec is actually extremely busy during the winter months and it’s all because of the festivities. The iconic Quebec Carnival is in full swing in January and February. It's also extremely beautiful during this time.

Summer is also busy. The weather is great and the province sees a ton of international festivals, including the Quebec Summer Festival, a massive music festival that lasts two weeks.

If you want fewer crowds, pleasant weather, and cheaper travel, plan your trip for fall or spring.

Quebec City is a UNESCO World Heritage site with beautiful architecture and iconic neighborhoods like Old Quebec.

The second most French city in the world and a must-see Canadian destination is Montreal. The city is massive and has a ton of activities to keep the whole family busy.

Stay in Baie-Saint-Paul in the Charlevoix Region in eastern Quebec for the most beautiful views. It has a signature rustic atmosphere that fits perfectly with the distinctly Canadian natural landscapes.
