Another day, another billion-dollar travel deal shaking things up in the industry.

Alaska Airlines announced on Sunday it agreed to buy Hawaiian Airlines in a $1.9 billion deal.

Earlier this year, JetBlue paid $3.8 billion to acquire Spirit Airlines.

Pause for a moment and try to comprehend just how much money that is. The staggering amount of cash that is just goes to show how much strength there is in the travel industry.

While JetBlue and Spirit are still trying to work things out, given the lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to try and block the merger, it remains to be seen how the government will react to Alaska Airlines’ move.

It should come as no surprise though that big-name travel brands continue to merge.

We knew this was a likelihood following the COVID-19 pandemic, and we’ve seen it in multiple ways on the travel agency side as well in the last couple of years.

Travel mergers aren’t likely to slow down. Choice Hotels recently outlined a proposal to acquire Wyndham Hotels, which was rejected.

What do you think of all the recent travel mergers, and what might be next?
