At this time of year, most tourists
want to escape the wintry weather by visiting Cancun and the Riviera Maya in Mexico.
But a new attraction
in the vacation paradise
is betting that travelers long for the snow and ice, or at least want to
experience it for the first time.
A new theme park is opening in
Cancun, where organizers promise it will feature real snow that will never melt
and temperatures that will hover around 11 degrees below zero.
The park is scheduled to open on December
15 in the hotel zone and will be called La
Isla Cancun Plaza.
"Get
ready to immerse yourself in a world of winter magic. On December 15, a real
snow theme park arrives in Cancun, where winter dreams come true. Join us in
creating magical memories where every laugh is a snowflake that never melts,”
the La Isla Cancun Plaza said in a statement.
Attendees
are advised to dress warmly, as the park will be kept below freezing at all
times to keep the snow from melting.
The
park will be open from 1 to 9 p.m. local time Monday through Friday and noon to
9:00 p.m. on the weekends.
It
will cost about 200 pesos to enter the park, or less than $12.
The
park will allow you to go from Parkas and snow boots to bathing suits and
barefoot in a matter of however long it takes you to get back to the beach.
